Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
Focus Meow ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and user privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how our mobile application handles data, with a specific focus on the system permissions required to provide our core app-blocking and productivity functionalities.
Core Privacy Commitment: Focus Meow is designed as an offline-first utility application. We do not collect, harvest, store, or transmit any personal data, application usage logs, or device statistics to any external servers. All processing occurs strictly and exclusively on your local device.
1. Explicit Disclosure of Sensitive Android Permissions
To deliver the core features of limiting digital distractions and managing screen time, Focus Meow requires access to specific sensitive Android capabilities. Below is an explicit and prominent disclosure of how and why these permissions are used:
-
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage Access):
Purpose: This permission is strictly used to detect in real-time when a user-selected "distracting app" is launched or brought to the foreground.
Data Handling: The application checks the package name locally on the device to determine if it matches your blocked list. This data is processed in volatile memory, is never saved permanently, and is never transmitted over the network.
-
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Display Over Other Apps / System Overlay):
Purpose: When the app detects a blocked application in the foreground during a "Cat's Watch" session, this permission allows Focus Meow to display a non-evasive fullscreen overlay screen containing a countdown timer.
Data Handling: This is used purely for user interface (UI) rendering locally on your screen and does not read or capture any screen content or keystrokes.
-
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE (Foreground Service):
Purpose: This permission ensures that our cat productivity timer operates reliably and continuously in the background without being aggressively terminated by the Android operating system's power manager. It allows the countdown and blocking loops to run accurately while you focus.
-
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Notification Access):
Purpose: Used solely to send you push alerts when your focus session ("Cat's Watch") ends or when it is time to transition to a short break ("Cat Nap Time").
2. Data Security & Storage
Since we do not run backend cloud services or data storage servers for user tracking, your data cannot be exposed or breached. Any configuration preferences (such as your specific app-blocking lists and custom timer durations) are stored safely using Android's local secure storage mechanisms (Preferences/DataStore) on your own physical handset.
3. Third-Party Services & Advertisements
We may integrate trusted third-party SDKs (such as Google AdMob) to display non-personalized or personalized advertisements to support ongoing development. These third-party networks may collect anonymous device-specific identifiers (like Google Advertising ID) subject to their own separate privacy regulations. They have no access to Focus Meow's local operational logic.
4. Children's Privacy
Our services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
